Vivisimo quadruples in size; hiring across the spectrum

Vivisimo, the Squirrel Hill-based enterprise search software company, has taken growth to a new level, quadrupling its workforce in little more than a year. It has also extended its reach into Latin America and has established a European base in Paris.

Since 2006, Vivisimo has added 35 new employees. The company plans to hire another 70 employees this year in all areas of business: software development, implementation, sales, marketing, and engineers. Having outgrown its space, the company plans to lease additional square footage next door, reports Rebecca Thompson, vice president of marketing.

Vivísimo, founded in 2000 by three Carnegie Mellon University scientists, offers innovative technology to organize and cluster vast amounts of unwieldy data. Using a mathematical algorithm and deep linguistic knowledge, the software finds relationships between search terms and channels them into clusters placed in tidy folders.

Vivísimo's Velocity Search Platform has attracted global attention and customers, providing enterprises with a state-of-the-art search solution that allow users to access the vast wealth of a company’s information through a single search box. Vivisimo counts international intelligence and government agencies among its customers, as well as Organon International, RAND Corp. and Airbus.

Web surfers can take advantage of Vivisimo’s demonstration platform, Clusty, the world’s first full-service search site using advanced clustering technology.

“We love being in Pittsburgh,” says Rebecca Thompson, vice president of marketing. “Not only is there a great quality of life here for our employees, but the plethora of universities produces a stream of talent.”
