Thorley Industries designs latest cool gear for moms, doubles in size and hiring

Thorley Industries, the Pittsburgh family-friendly developers of innovative products for infants and children, has successfully launched two products with 164 retailers nationwide and will double its company size this year.

Thorley’s product brand is 4moms, gadgets that use digital technology, smart design and common sense to make life easier for parents while improving product safety. Its first two successful products are the Clean Water Infant Tub, a low-tech system that circulates fresh water through a plastic basin while digitally measuring the water’s temperature, and a spout cover digital thermometer, a nozzle that attaches to the spigot and registers the temperature of the water to prevent burns.

“This is about a kid in diaper all day and recycling dirty water out of the tub, replacing it with clean water,” explains company co-founder Rob Daley. “Coming up with it was one of those a-ha moments, as in what took them so long?”

Thorley Industries was founded in 2005 by DaLEY, formerly of Daley Capital Partners, and Henry THORne, previously a founder of Aethon. The brand derieves its name from the four Mt. Lebanon moms that helped consult on the products.

BabiesRus, Target.com, Amazon, and Pottery Barn Kids are among the retailers who carry the 4moms line. The company hopes to hit $5 million in sales this year.

Thorley currently employs seven and plans to double to between 12 and 14 people by the end of this year and hire four engineers in the next few months. The company raised $3.6 million in three rounds with the help of Blue Tree Allied Angels, FNB Capital and Innovation Works.
