Pittsburgh gamers gather at ETC for Sim Ops Studios’ first game jam

Pittsburgh’s Sim Ops Studios will kick off a coast-to-coast tour of its online video game Wild Pockets this month with a Pittsburgh game jam to test the revolutionary platform before its big release next year.

A competitive carnival for the gaming enthusiast, the jam will run Oct. 18-19 at the Entertainment Technology Center, offering gamers a chance to try out the latest beta version of Wild Pockets, meet a panel of industry experts and enhance their portfolios, says Shanna Tellerman, president and CEO. Teams will be formed and winners will progress to other cities and a national championship.

“This (the closed beta invitation) is the most important and exciting step for us,” Tellerman explains. “The next several months we will be building contacts, polishing the product and we expect a full and open launch (of Wild Pockets) in 2009.”

Wild Pockets is a revolutionary online platform that enables game developers and novices to create and share immersive 3-D games in a browser. The company recently won a coveted ETC DEMOgod award as a promising new technology company for the gaming industry.

An Innovation Works and Idea Foundry company, Sim Ops employs eight people in Pittsburgh and has an office in San Francisco. So assemble your team, grab an artist and sign and register up for the free game jam, click here.
