Move over ticket sellers, ShowClix launches innovative mobile ticketing service

Oakmont-based ShowClix has launched an innovative new ticketing service that puts buying a concert ticket as close as your cell phone and your next text message.

The live entertainment search engine hopes to establish its ticket-selling presence in Pittsburgh before expanding the service nationwide in several months. ShowClix has partnered with bCode, a developer of mobile technologies, to establish a buying platform that allows users to receive event tickets as short message service (SMS) text messages. Unlike similar technologies that use mobile barcode images, the platform is compatible with 99 percent of all mobile devices, says Lynsie Camuso, co-founder.

The service made its debut at a concert atMr. Small’s last weekend.
“People seem to love the fact that they get their ticket by phone,” says Camuso. “They like the fact that it’s paperless and they like the innovative check-in process.”

The new service helps ticket sellers to lower their service fees, increase ticket security and stops scalpers from peddling tickets on the street. Sellers can register for an account free and can sign on for a more custom solution that involves ShowClix hardware.

ShowClix is focusing on medium-sized venues of between 500 and 1200 people, but the technology has the potential to work for larger and smaller events, adds Camuso.

Here’s how it works: After placing a mobile order, ticket buyers receive a confirmation text message, notifying them that their event ticket will be delivered to their cell phone the day before the event. About 24 hours before the event, buyers receive another text message with their mobile ticket number that is verified verified with a bCODE scanner at the door.
