Pittsburgh Innovates

ShowClix’s search engine offers music fans and artists an innovative alternative

It’s about time someone gave live music fans and independent artists an alternative to concert promotion and online ticket sales.

ShowClix is an Oakmont-based online music search engine that provides attractive and easy  access to local concert listings and musicians, connecting live music fans around the world and--coming soon--ticket purchasing through a ShowClix developed  platform. Possibly the best part, it gives independent musicians an affordable way to promote their own shows free of charge.

The idea was the spark of two local entrepreneurs, Joshua Dziabiak and Lynsie Camuso, who met each other at Spreadshirt.com.

“We’re really focused on the independent musician and helping them find ways to promote themselves,” says Camuso, whose background is show biz, having worked in the LA entertainment business booking talent for the Rosie O’Donnell Show.

ShowClix started small in Pittsburgh in March 2007 and has slowly expanded its music database to offer information on 20,000 shows in more than 2,000 cities worldwide. Last week the site went international, providing information about concerts taking place in venues around the world, including Europe, Asia and Australia. Radio stations have added ShowClix as a plug-in to power the concert page on their web sites and the site has logged more than 175,000 hits per month since last November.

“There’s room for competition and the industry is ripe for it,” says Dziabiak. “We’ve found that a lot of people are looking for an alternative. We’re going to be able to offer a lot of additional tools that you can’t get from other competitors. We really want to reduce service fees for the buyers.”

Innovation Works gave the company $150,000 toward product development last year, enabling ShowClix to operate full-time with 3 full-time and 2 part-time employees.
