Classy Cab founder Bob DeLucia has a vision of Pittsburgh as a city teeming with green cabs.
Not the color green, but sustainable green, and DeLucia has taken the first step by rebuilding his entire fleet to run on propane, electricity and hydrogen fuel cells.
Classy Cab, based in Cranberry with a garage in the West End, just added 10 cars to its 40-car fleet; DeLucia swears he’s getting 60 miles to the gallon on the hydrogen fuel cell models.
“I’ve been doing this for more than 25 years and decided with everything going on to take the lead in converting my fleet to green,” says DeLucia. “I have to with the cost of fuel. It’s my contribution to fighting city air pollution.”
DeLucia owns three transportation companies in addition to Classy Cab:
Star Transportation Group, a limo service; AirStar Transportation, an alternative to flying; and
Cranberry Taxi, all featuring fuel efficient, green vehicles.
Classy Cab was founded in 2005 to fill the niche between a cab and limo. The black Chrysler 300s, each named after a Steelers player, offer comfortable, upscale service with premium sound quality and a state-of-the-art communication system, “limo service with a meter,” he says.
And credit cards are accepted.
