This Saturday wake up (or set that alarm!) to the show that gets your weekend off to a musical start. Broadcast live from the
Children's Museum of Pittsburgh and on-air at
88.3 WRCT FM,
The Saturday Light Brigade features acoustic music, cultural arts previews and family fun.
One of the country’s longest-running public radio programs, SLB has kept the independent radio airwaves alive with authentic community voices and talents since 1978. Tune in every Saturday from, yawn, 6:00 a.m. until noon, for diverse music, on-air phone calls from kids and adults alike, I.Q.-raising puzzles, and engaging personalities.
Beginning at 10:35 a.m., SLB will host a preview of everybody's fave adverb and arithmetic production,
Schoolhouse Rock. Relive catchy numbers like “I’m Just a Bill” and “Conjunction Junction” with Pittsburgh-based
Saltworks Theatre, a professional company that stages family-friendly performances, educational dramas about social issues and actor trainings. Budding thespians aged 9-16 will perform the program's classic circa-1972 educational tunes and in no time, will have you up and singing about science, government and grammar.
Mining another early 1970s family classic, members of
The Essex Green—by way of Brooklyn, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh—will showcase their Baroque folk-pop stylings with a rare acoustic set of selections from
Free to Be You and Me. The choice of material is sure to complement the group’s penchant for folk-pop à la Fairport Convention, The Mamas and the Papas and Jackie DeShannon, and showcase arrangements of flute, guitar, piano, and vocal harmonies.
So
tune in,
listen online, or head to the
museum to enjoy the program in person.
