The Other Side of the Mirror: Dylan film + live music at Melwood Screening Room

When he famously plugged in at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival, Bob Dylan masterminded his break with the folk scene and unleashed an unexpected sonic assault that incited pandemonium among festival crowds. Loyal fans cried foul, fellow folkies went numb, a generation was alienated, and Dylan evolved as an artist.

Shot over three years and packed with never-before-seen footage, Murray Lerner’s film, The Other Side of the Mirror, charts Dylan’s meteoric rise from protest singer to rock ‘n’ roller. The film immortalizes performances of the masterpieces that defined Dylan's oeuvre and galvanized audiences worldwide, from 1963’s folksy "Chimes of Freedom," to the Joan Baez duet "It Ain't Me, Babe" to 1965’s frenetic "Like a Rolling Stone.”

Through the lens of live performance, the film reveals a portrait of youthful Dylan as he grows progressively withdrawn, and along with his talented band, takes his first steps toward rock stardom. The film recently received rave reviews at the New York Film Festival.

Co-presented with 91.3FM WYEP, Saturday night’s event at Melwood Screening Room also features a pre-film reception at 6:30 p.m., and live music by Paul Luc, Ben Hardt, Nicole Reynolds, Scotts Roger, Brad Yoder, and Steven Foxbury. The film starts at 7:30 p.m.
