Presenting contemporary art in craft media by international, national and regional artists, the Society for Contemporary Craft (SCC) hosts cutting-edge exhibitions focused on multicultural diversity and non-mainstream art, as well as a variety of engaging classes and community outreach programs. Located at 2100 Smallman St. in Pittsburgh’s vibrant Strip District, SCC also offers family-friendly art activities in its free drop-in studio and boasts a fabulously artsy shop. This Friday, head to SCC for an opening reception for 5 Contemporary Masters—highlighting work by Lenore Tawney, Marek Cecula, Jonathan Bonner, John Cederquist, and Steven Maslach—and Cooking with Sticks, a multimedia installation by Tom Sarver, which explores the artist’s interest in nature via an outdoor diorama, sketches for hand-made camping gadgets, and a video cooking demonstration.
