Imagine a permeable roadway that absorbs rainwater and helps to eliminate the polluting runoff.
In Chicago and Portland, sustainable streets are a reality. The Green Streets program is just one of many new initiatives that will be presented in Pittsburgh at
Engineering Sustainable Solutions for Your Community, an all-day conference that encourages the region to become greener through infrastructure design.
A panel of national and local experts will present real-world solutions including energy systems, water resource technologies, buildings and community initiatives. Engineers, architects, businesses and government leaders will learn about the latest innovations and solutions. Featured speakers will include Tom Walski of Bentley Systems on water resources, Janet Lauer, director of Three Rivers Clean Energy, and a panel discussion on building green.
“Our goal is to bring in experts who will offer practical, cost-saving solutions that can be implemented on this region,” says Kemal Niksic, chair of the Environmental & Water Resources Institute, one of the hosts of the conference along with the American Society of Civil Engineers, Architectural Engineering Institute and Champions for Sustainability, a program of Sustainable Pittsburgh.
The conference will be held at the Regional Learning Alliance in Cranberry Township from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The cost is $90 for members of the hosting organizations and $120 for non-members.
