College Prowler is stepping out this fall, boosting its exposure through a partnership with AOL, a blog site and a crazy YouTube video that rocketed to the top 30 most popular entertainment videos in two days.
Pittsburgh-based College Prowler is in its 6th season, the ultimate insider’s guide to colleges across the country, written by college students for prospective students.
“AOL has one of the most popular teen destinations on the Internet,” explains Luke Skurman, founder. “They loved what we were up to and they liked that our content was not stuffy but what kids really want to read.”
Each Thursday, AOL’s College Red site for teens features a link to a school reviewed by College Prowler. “The first profile, Arizona State, went up two weeks ago and already we’ve seen a significant increase in our traffic numbers,” Skurman says. “It’s really exciting real estate.”
And if that isn’t enticement enough, College Prowler is luring the bloggers and video buffs through its new web site called College Prowler Hook-up. Prowler teamed up with two popular Pittsburgh bloggers, Justine Ezarik and Desiree Cramer, to create a funny viral video, “Ghost Ride the Trike,” which features Skuman in wild plaid pants dancing on the rooftop of, well, you have to see it for yourself.
“College hookup is all about giving our users cool interesting stuff, not selling anything, letting them have fun with it,” says Skurman. User can enter contests to win Prowler T-shirts and guides, too.
