Flourishing business is moving MAYA to new digs downtown.

The new headquarters will be located on the 16th floor of 444 Liberty Ave. in the Gateway Center, giving the multi-dimensional firm more than 19,000 square-feet for company growth and new hires. The Maya companies include Maya Design, LUMA Institute, Rhiza Labs and Maya Group.

In other expansion news, Pittsburgh-based Seegrid, developer and manufacturer of robotic forklifts for industry and warehouse stocking, is expanding for a second time. Seegrid is renovating another 10,000 square-feet next to its 30,000 square-foot location in RIDC Park West, adding space for an engineering department and lab.

Earlier this year, Seegrid formed partnerships with Raymond Corp (a division of Toyota) and Linde Material Handling, a subsidiary of the KION Group, two of the largest forklift manufacturers in the world. The deal is effectively moving Seegrid's vision-guided robotic technology into an expanded world market, says Scott Friedman, founder and CEO.

Our customer footprint has grown from 16-18 states to countries on two continents, says Friedman. The partnership  allows us to focus on what we do best, leveraging the talent we have here.

"We will continue with our brand, but we will become the Ferrari's of the industry.  It's a big reach for Pittsburgh robotics. It makes us the biggest exporter of robotics technology out of the region."

A Carnegie Mellon spinout founded in 2003 by Friedman and Hans Moravec, Seegrid's forklifts use sophisticated 3D machine vision technology to navigate and move about, making them flexible, simple and affordable for companies. Seegrid has doubled in size in the last year and currently employs 67. More hiring is expected.
