"Living Pittsburgh" is all about free and affordable fun

Finding things to do in Pittsburgh is never a problem but in these tough times finding affordable things is often the goal.

That's why Heather Walsh and Rachel Booth started Living Pittsburgh, a Web site that compiles free and affordable deals around the area. "Frugal doesn't have to have any kind of negative connotation. It's being wise with how you spend your money," Walsh explained. From shopping and dining to outdoors and relaxing—Living Pittsburgh has it. A brief piece on Lovin' Lawrenceville steers readers to a reasonable brunch at Coco Café, bowling at Arsenal Lanes, and a visit to Wild Card and Zombo Gallery. Last stop: Brillobox for a $5 vegetarian dinner.

Walsh, a seasoned bargain hunter who quit her career to be a stay at home mom, saw a niche for a website of affordable listings. She partnered with Booth, also a stay at home mom, and they debuted the site in Nov. 2009.

New to the site is a membership for businesses to post discounts and deals. User submissions are also welcome. Supporting local business is one of the best parts of what they do, Walsh and Booth agreed.

Making a mark in Pittsburgh is another.  "I would like to see us become a household name," Booth said. "If somebody is contemplating looking for a discount or a deal or a value in Pittsburgh, the first thing that would come to their mind would be check Living Pittsburgh."
