LaBarge, one of the fastest growing contract electronics manufactures in the world, can’t seem to hire employees in Pittsburgh fast enough.
The company announced this month that it is expanding and hiring again. The St. Louis-based electronics equipment supplier hired 100 people over the past 18 months and has plans to hire another 100 in the next two years for a wide variety of jobs: engineering, technical and production jobs, mechanical and electrical buyers, quality test and new-model-introduction engineers, technicians, surface mount technology operators and production floor operators.
The East Pittsburgh manufacturer also will need additional second-shift personnel.
LaBarge is expanding business to take advantage of growing demands from the medical equipment market where it has acquired many new customers, says Teresa Huber, vice president of operations. The Pittsburgh division alone has increased annual revenues more than 50 percent from fiscal 2007 to 2008. LaBarge Inc. hit net sales of $68 million in its most recent quarter compared with $59.2 million in net sales for the same period last year.
The company also invested more than $3 million in "eco-friendly," state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment last year.
“LaBarge’s focused strategy, diverse market approach and our great local workforce are key to our growth in Pittsburgh,” adds Huber. “Our extensive manufacturing, engineering and program management capabilities have really differentiated LaBarge as a full-service manufacturing partner that’s capable of taking on tough technical challenges. We believe our strategy will continue to serve us well within the current economic environment, particularly as customers further utilize outsourcing as a way to reduce their own manufacturing costs.”
