Finding a reliable freelancer just got easier with a new ranking system introduced by Pittsburgh’s
Guru.com.
Touting itself as the world’s largest online marketplace for freelance talent, Guru recently established a platform that rates freelance work more fairly and gives freelancers just entering the market an opportunity to break in at the top.
"Most service sites rank freelancers based on total earnings and subjective feedback ratings, and we've found this to be very misleading," explains Kristen Sabol, spokesperson. "Switching to a quality scoring system provides greater accuracy in the ability of rank to set expectations about performance. For a new freelancer, it puts the emphasis on quality not quantity."
Guru helps to match free agents with companies all over the world through its large database of freelancers and tools such as social media, web profiles and video. The new Quality Score-based Rank system is the first system that evaluates freelancers based on three areas that shift the bias away from those who've freelanced the longest in favor of freelancers that achieve a quality ranking through their customer acquisition rate, earnings rate and retention rate.
In today’s economic climate, it’s important to create a system that’s fair to new freelancers. Freelance activity continues to climb, says Sabol. Guru.com currently has 125,638 Active Freelancer Profiles. Employers posted 101,606 projects in 2008, an 8.7percent increase from the 2007 figure of 93,434 projects.
“We’re seeing a lot more people who are interested in becoming self employed,” notes Sabol. “Our registered users have increased. This gives everyone an equal opportunity.”
