Millions of young people around the world are coming together this week to let the creative sparks of innovation fly in celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week.
Pittsburgh has joined the international party with a slate of free events offered through a partnership of the Entrepreneurship Clubs of Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh. The programs—which include panels and speakers and a $5 Challenge to see who can increase their wealth the fastest starting with $5—are not for students only.
“The Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence is really trying to help Pittsburgh businesses by promoting entrepreneurship,” says Tim Koncewicz, spokesperson for IEE. “Pittsburgh is a great city that offers amazing opportunities to entrepreneurs and we want to promote this as a way to offer people vision and direction.”
IEE provides free services and guidance to anyone interested in pursuing their business dreams. PantherlabWorks, for example, offers technology support by helping to take early stage innovation from the lab to the marketplace.
Pitt grad Rick Cancelliere turned to IEE for guidance in developing a plan for his now successful company JDAnthony, a downtown Pittsburgh advertising agency that does interactive marketing for the medical industry.
“The most surprising aspect of my entrepreneurial career was that people
actually believed in me at a very young age, and realized that I had
valuable input to contribute,” says Cancelliere. “This continues to inspire me to keep striving for success.”
