A Pittsburgh Technology Council forum on the hot topic of the role that immigrant entrepreneurs play in the nation's emerging technology economy will take place next Thursday at Carnegie Mellon University.

The speaker is Vivek Wadhwa, an adjunct professor/executive in residence at the Pratt School for Engineering at Duke University where his research has focused on the impact of globalization and outsourcing on the engineering profession, the competitive threat from India and China, and one of America's greatest advantages, its skilled immigrants.

His recent works include a series of papers titled “America's New Immigrant Entrepreneurs,” which documented that one in four engineering companies founded between 1995 and 2005 had at least one immigrant founder. Those companies employed nearly 450,000 people in 2006 and generated more than $52 billion. During his visit to the region, Mr. Wadhwa will share his thoughts on how the region can leverage the power of immigrants to help transform our economy.

The event is sponsored by JBM Immigration Group and Seth Law Associates.
