Carnegie Speech in Oakland has joined in a strategic and technology development partnership that will position the company to support the CIA and the broader U.S. Intelligence community.

A global provider of software for assessing and teaching spoken-language to non-native speakers, Carnegie Speech will work with In-Q-Tel, a strategic investment firm based in Arlington, VA, which partners with companies developing cutting-edge technologies that serve the national security interests of the U.S.

"Carnegie Speech's partnership with In-Q-Tel has been instrumental in helping us grow our business within the U.S. government's intelligence community and military," says Angela Kennedy, president and CEO of Carnegie Speech. "As the demand for U.S. personnel to be proficient in speaking foreign languages is significant and growing, so is this aspect of Carnegie Speech's business."

The Carnegie Mellon University spinout, founded 2001, expanded last year. The company is hiring several software developers. Carnegie Speech provides spoken language instruction to a global clientele in the corporate, government, aviation, education and healthcare markets in more than 20 countries.

The company's two flagship products, NativeAccent and Carnegie Speech Assessment, teach non-native English speakers how to more accurately speak and pronounce English. The product line also includes platforms to train English speakers in Iraqi, Russian and Farsi .
