Monroeville-based Cardinal Resources has launched its sustainable remediation business in the Asian market, with four projects in Shanghai, China, and another in Tokyo, Japan.
Cardinal also hopes to open an office in Shanghai in the next year.
“The work in Japan will be a multi-year project and will entail additional hires,” says Kevin Jones, president of Cardinal Resources. “Combined with our existing work in Australia, it represents a solid base and spring board for launching the Red Bird System and Grey Bird in Asia.”
Cardinal Resources's green technologies include the Red Bird System, a solar-powered community-sized drinking water system, and the Grey Bird, an approach to wastewater treatment and green infrastructure.
The projects in Shanghai and Tokyo draw on Cardinal Resources' expertise in sustainable, technology remediation and environmental assessment. Two projects involve the cleanup of historic problems at existing chemical plants while the other two are focused on environmental assessments to establish the baseline conditions at new facilities.
“China may prove to be the greenest country in the world in the next five to seven years,” conjectures Jones, who sees a developing concern for enviromental problems in the country as a purveyor of green technology. “They are beginning to put a tremendous emphasis on the environment."
