BitArmor’s Patrick McGregor is generating a buzz for “data-centric security” these days, the next big thing on the security software horizon.
“We’re excited as a Pittsburgh startup to be on the cutting edge of the future of this industry,” says McGregor, who recently returned from the industry’s largest trade show San Francisco where he unveiled BitArmor’s latest product, DataControl. “It’s a unique solution in the marketplace.”
Unlike other security systems that protect devices, DataControl protects the data by attaching “Smart Tags” directly to data so it can be tracked and monitored as it travels throughout an enterprise’s network system.
“What people care about is the information traveling on those networks,” explains McGregor. “It’s important for enterprises to protect the data, which has incredible value.”
With the launch of DataControl in the first quarter, BitArmor has doubled sales in four months over what it earned in 2007. In addition, the company has partnered with Microsoft and will be integrating special encryption software with Microsoft’s core systems.
BitArmor has doubled its office space in its downtown headquarters and plans call for tremendous growth and the hiring 10 to 20 people in the coming year in the areas of software development, product management, sales and sales support.
“We’re always on the lookout to hire and best and brightest people,” McGregor says.
