Six new startups have joined
AlphaLab, a software incubator on the South Side that fosters the growth of software, Internet and entertainment technology companies in the region.
Created by
Innovation Works, the most active investor in seed-stage companies in Pittsburgh, AlphaLab companies participate in an intensive, 20-week program and receive a $25,000 investment, office space and business mentoring from a team of industry experts.
“Alpha Lab is a great opportunity to learn many things quickly,” says Scott Connelly whose startup AJAX Street joined this cycle. “It will enable us to take a leap without feeling like we’re falling. The wealth of knowledge from the advisors adds value to everything we do here.”
Here’s a peek at the new crop of companies:
AJAX Street is developing user-friendly, web-based software that enables organizations to preserve and extend their brand identity. The company’s conversion engine creates style guides from web styles, to enforce a consistent look across different media, saving companies time and money.
Bueda optimizes online ad placement in rich media and user-generated content via its innovative matching engine. Based on research from Carnegie Mellon University's Language Technologies Institute, Bueda uses semantic analysis to match ads with the most relevant multi-media content: images, video, text and other web-accessible content.
InnomiNet allows consumers and businesses to protect their online activities by eliminating any restrictions on their Internet access. Innominet’s software allows private, anonymous Internet communication by using a distributed network.
iTwixie Inc. is developing the ultimate online “hangout” for ‘tween’ girls. Today’s parents, educators and caregivers worry about how marketers approach their 8-14 year-old girls. iTwixie will inspire and unite 'tween girls on a site that’s safe, age-appropriate and fun.
Stockcastr is a next-generation financial media platform that will power a global community of producers and consumers of quality financial analysis.
