Dr. Aldo Zini, president and CEO of Pittsburgh-based Aethon, Inc., the nation’s largest healthcare robotic company, received a prestigious 2007 Distinguished Alumni Award from the Industrial Engineering Dept. of University of Pittsburgh.

The award honors Zini for being at the forefront of the technology revolution in hospital patient safety for more than 15 years. Aethon’s core product, the Tug, is the first low-cost autonomous robot and is positioned to change the way hospitals and other industries manage the movement and delivery of goods.

“Since 1964, the School of Engineering has recognized the best and brightest through the Distinguished Alumni Award,” touts Gerald Holder, the U.S. Steel Dean of Engineering at Pittsburgh.

Zini’s success story began long before he took the helm at Aethon. His contributions to technology driven companies have led to acquisitions worth more than a quarter billion dollars. He served as vice president of sales and marketing for Automated Healthcare (AH), which developed the first robotic medication dispensing system for hospitals. AH was acquired by McKesson in 1996 for $67 million. He continued on as senior vice president, building the McKesson Automation Group into one of the largest success stories in Pittsburgh.
