Golden Triangle Bike-n-Blade is geared up to bring more cyclists to
Downtown’s streets and trails. The 1,200 square-foot shop, which opened
this spring, is located at 600 1st Ave., underneath the “T” station.
The shop rents
Diamondback comfort bikes, tandems and children’s
bikes, as well as trailers, baby seats and adult tricycles. In
addition, Bike-n-Blade carries bike parts and accessories, completes
repairs and sells refreshments. “I looked to open my own business for
years. I can’t wait to get down here each day. I love bikes and working
on them,” says owner Tom Demagall, 33.
The shop’s $5 lunch-hour special has drawn bike enthusiasts from
nearby law firms. “I’m trying to get more people
down here during weekdays, to create offers for downtown companies and
wellness programs. I’m thinking about adding a student rate,” says
Demagall.
The 24-hour rental fee is $30, which includes a helmet and lock.
Bikes can be rented for multiple days or for one week; group discounts
are available. Bike-n-Blade also sells bikes for $150. “They’re
fairly new bikes in good shape. I maintain and repair them. I’m trying
to keep my stock moving,” says Demagall, who plans to get involved with
the city’s many bike advocacy groups.
Demagall, who works regularly with Downtown hotels, sees year-round
potential for Bike-n-Blade. He plans to stay open as much as possible
during winter, is considering adding a coffee shop, and envisions the
shop as a venue for live music.
