Pop Filter Hot Pick: Obvious Productions celebrates its two-year anniversary
Obvious Productions' two-year Anniversary Party w/Natasha Kmeto, Lauren G, James Gyre and visuals by Ben Tabas at Belvedere's Ultra-Dive on Fri., March 28 at 9:30PM.
The past two years have been particularly fruitful for the folks at Obvious Productions
, an event production, artist management, and streetwear company based here in PGH. To celebrate their sophomore year, they will be hosting revered Portland-based singer and electronic music producer Natasha Kmeto at Belvedere’s Ultra-Dive in Lawrenceville this Friday
. The multi-faceted firm will also feature local artists Lauren G (VIA) and James Gyre; visuals will be provided by Ben Tabas.
Since 2012, Obvious Productions has rapidly grown their brand alongside Pittsburgh’s flourishing electronic music and digital arts scene while overlapping and collaborating with crews like the DJ collective Humanaut
, house music purists Pittsburgh Track Authority
, and the innovative concert promoters in VIA
Obvious has played a big part in making Pittsburgh a hotbed of adventurous electronic music. They’ve managed to host some of the most memorable electronic music shows the city has seen in the past few years (Claude Von Stroke’s face melting late-night set at Hot Mass in 2012 leaps to mind) while continuing to champion homegrown talent such as Pittsburgh natives Buku and Derek Dumont with their artist management arm. Natasha Kmeto, who killed it with her 2013 full-length release Crsis, is just another in a long line of bleeding edge artists they’ve brought to Pittsburgh. Her combination of chilly, atmospheric, UK-influenced dubstep and sensual R&B songcraft is an excellent celebration of Obvious’ position in Pittsburgh as “bass culture catalysts,” as both parties seek to make a traditionally esoteric and insular music genre a little more accessible and genuinely enjoyable. The party takes place Friday
