As a resident of the North Side, I'm no stranger to fireworks. In fact, I watch them burst into the sky behind PNC Park quite regularly, it's a tradition I'm fond of as it evokes a sense of celebration and even more so, summertime.
When you live in a city like Pittsburgh, where winter seems to take its time, the warmer months are so much sweeter. I feel like I can mark time by how I've spent my summers. This year is particularly special because it's the first I've spent with my daughter, Matilda. While Pop City is off next week, I'll be enjoying watching her experience new things such as swimming and playing in the sand.
The Pop City staff is certain you'll enjoy the holiday too, whether you're partaking in time-honored 'Burgh traditions such as the Three-Rivers Regatta
downtown, or creating a new ritual of your own. We're constantly amazed by the ever-growing abundance of cool things to do in our fabulous city.
And as Pittsburgh evolves, so do we; you may have noticed some new photographers' work on the site this month. Caulin Grant
comes to us as an Instagram wunderkind, boasting 33,000 followers (By the way, have you followed us on Instagram
yet?) and Noah Purdy's
work can be seen featured prominently in Rustbelt Almanac
, a magazine he co-founded last year.
We'll be back on July 9, with a new issue. Next month promises more content addressing what's new and changing in Pittsburgh, from Air BnBs to our public transportation. Make sure to stay tuned, and if you haven't yet, subscribe to our newsletter.
Happy Fourth of July!
All my best,
