Event of the Week: Crafts N'At
September 5, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Union Project, East Liberty/Highland Park
pghcraftcollective.com
An initiative of the burgeoning
Pittsburgh Craft Collective—a homegrown community of some 51 members who have launched a new craft-centric series of networking opportunities, educational workshops and resource sharing sessions—Crafts N'At will transform the indoor and outdoor grounds of the
Union Project into a showcase of hand-constructed products, D.I.Y. designs and artistic practice. The Collective's first show will feature 50 independent vendors, family-friendly make and take activities, demonstrations, performances, a Chinese auction and a raffle. Sales from the event's BBQ will support programming at the Union Project.
Peruse everything from eclectic jewelry, organic soaps, and reconstructed tees, to fanciful greeting cards, one-of-a-kind baby hats, and hand spun yarns—and of course tons of other really cool stuff that you won't find at that church flea market or big box retailer. Meet the talented makers behind the wares, learn how-to crafty tips and support the local design community. At Crafts N'At, you'll shop for a cause, because the the event is also a benefit for the
Parkinson Foundation of Western Pennsylvania and
[ gravity + grace ], a contemporary opera written by Frank Ferraro, which will premier later this month at the Hillman Center for Performing Arts.
