UPMC Northwest’s new $8 million rehabilitation center/transitional care unit is 75% complete.
On target to open in June, the 23,000-square-foot complex is located off Rte. 257 at 100 Fairfield Dr., next to the hospital’s main campus in Seneca, Pa. The one-story facility will house a 16-bed transitional care unit and 9-bed rehabilitation unit. Also featured will be physical, occupational and speech therapy facilities that will make these services available to outpatients for the first time at the Seneca campus.
The new unit will allow UPMC Northwest rehab/TCU patients to now have much-needed direct on-site access to the hospital’s emergency and imaging departments, operating room, and additional diagnostic and treatment services that currently require transporting patients from Oil City to Seneca. The new site will also offer improved physician coverage and food service, and allow the hospital to serve more patients.
“The unit will be close to the main hospital; currently they’re eight miles away,” says Nancy Pastorius, with UPMC Northwest. “We’re eliminating the transportation issues and improving access—there are a lot of positives.”
The facility’s steel structure, windows and brick exterior are complete. Interior work now underway includes the framing of walls, construction of drywall, and installation of mechanical systems. Finishing touches, such as painting, tile work and the installation of cabinets and flooring, are progressing in parts of the one-story building. Paving and landscaping will begin this spring.
