With the grand opening of the new
Tanger Outlet Center in Washington, Pa. this weekend, residents from throughout the tri-state region will have a new shopping destination.
Located off I-79’s Meadowlands/Racetrack Rd. exit, 20 miles south of Downtown Pittsburgh, the 370,238-square-foot complex features 75 brand name and designer outlet stores which carry merchandise at an average of 40% off full retail prices. Among them are Banana Republic Factory Store, Brooks Brothers Factory Store, Coach Factory Store, Harry and David, and Timberland Factory Store.
The $90 million project is expected to attract 4.5 million shoppers each year and generate $1.2 in annual property tax. More than 800 full and part-time employees will work at the complex, which is run by Greensboro, North Carolina-based Tanger Factory Outlet Centers, Inc. The Washington location joins Lancaster as Pennsylvania's second Tanger site.
“We’re very excited to be on the front edge of where a lot of growth is happening. It’s an underserved area with great access for shoppers from the multi-state region. We're also close to the city of Pittsburgh,” says Mike Buesher, with Tanger.
Tanger’s grand opening during Labor Day weekend—will feature festival-like activities, including a ferris wheel, carousel, carnival games and prizes, fireworks, and a center-wide sidewalk sales. A ribbon-cutting event on Aug. 29 will be emceed by Jerome Bettis, will meet fans and sign autographs near Tanger’s food court.
