Crazy Mocha Coffee Company
is quickly becoming the go-to place for java in Downtown Pittsburgh.
On June 9, Crazy Mocha opened its seventeenth area location in One Mellon Center—home to 4,500 employees at 500 Grant St. “It’s the second largest building Downtown—that’s a benefit,” says Crazy Mocha owner Ken Zeff, who runs seven Downtown locations, including one in the nearby Steel Plaza T station—where 8,000 people travel daily.
One Mellon Center—which caters to the office market—follows on the heels of Crazy Mocha’s new 801 Liberty Ave. and PPG locations. When discussing further expansion, Zeff talks about targeting Downtown's “hotspots” and “people populated parts."
Next up for the growing Crazy Mocha empire is a Three Mellon Center location, expected to open in July. “It’ll be a building amenity with a cool fun factor. We’ll push the envelope in the office coffee world,” adds Zeff, who employs 100 people and founded Crazy Mocha in 2000. “When you add up all of these locations, there may be 20,000 people on a daily basis who walk by everyday, and are becoming more comfortable with our brand and product.”
As for Downtown, Zeff is interested in up-and-coming locations like PNC Three
. “Downtown continues to grow in all areas—the Cultural District
, Market Square
, Point Park
, and business district. When these opportunities end, we’ll look at a suburb or new neighborhood to add a few stores and create the same comfort zone,” adds Zeff.
