Taste of Dahntahn restaurant opens on Liberty Avenue

Pittsburgh’s newest restaurant has a serious yinzer accent.  Taste of Dahntahn, located in the recently restored Dallmeyer building, opened for dinner last Thursday and the menu is fluent in Pittsburghese.  Manager Kassandra Scribner describes the space as a 1920s, Rat Pack-inspired, Art Deco restaurant.

“I’d like to say that we have a brand new concept called Pittsburgh fusion,” Scriebner says, a blend of everything from Italian, French, Japanese, and Latin.  Dinner items include a pan seared ahi tuna with sesame-ginger marinade, and a Port braised veal ossobuco.  Entrees range from $15 to $22.

At lunch, however, Pittsburgh-centric items take center stage.  Items include a Get Dahn Burger; Attaboy, Cat’s Meow, and Bee’s Knees sandwiches; Three Rivers Crab Cake; Iron City Wedge Salad; and of course, Isaly’s Chipped Chopped Ham Barbecue Sandwich.

Taste of Dahtahn (a Pittsburgh pronunciation of downtown, for those who don’t know) is owned by Courtney Lynch-Crawford, also of the successful Cultural District restaurant Nine on Nine.  On the building’s second floor Lynch-Crawford runs the C P Group furniture business, and on the third and fourth floors are renovated apartments.

A large, brightly lit sign, what Scribner calls Times Square-classic, announces the restaurant’s location, directly across from the Fairmont Hotel.

The restaurant seats approximately 90 and includes a U-shaped bar. A full liquor license is expected to arrive within the next few days, but the restaurant will remain BYOB. 

Located at 535 Liberty Avenue, Taste of Dahtahn is currently serving lunch and dinner seven days a week, and on August 29th will be open for breakfast.  412-224-2240.
