A $20 million expansion is planned for the
Heritage Valley Health System’s Beaver campus.
The new 45,000-square-foot facility—which will be constructed next to the main hospital—will feature an Emergency Department, Gastrointestinal Laboratory and shell space for future expansion.
The new Emergency Department will expand rooms and beds from 26 to 42, square footage from 12,900 to 24,689 and capacity visits from 26,000 to at least 65,000. The hospital’s new GI Lab space will triple the square footage of its current lab, add a much-needed fourth lab and expand patient waiting areas. The complex will also house a children’s playroom, digital x-ray services, and additional triage, isolation and bereavement rooms.
“Our emergency department volume increases by three-percent every year. This year we’ll see about fifty-three thousand visits,” says Rose Nolan, with Heritage Valley Health System. “It’s about adjusting the space to the current volume of patients and accommodating future growth."
The project will add new features to the Beaver campus’ main entrance, including a multi-story glass atrium which will surround two new elevators. An open-air garden—which will be visible from a new Outpatient Test Center—will sit between the hospital’s current and new buildings.
The expansion also calls for a renovation of the hospital’s current Emergency Department, which will house a new Heart and Vascular Center, and will allow the hospital to expand services such as electrophysiological diagnostic testing, permanent pacemaker insertions and ablation procedures for abnormal heart rhythms.
